These super - tiny surface - mount LEDs are a great way to add lots of small yet bright colorful dots to your project. They're mini versions of our digital DotStart strips and matrices with full chainable 2 - wire control. Measuring just 2mm x 2mm, they're much smaller than APA102 - 5050 - RGB LEDs. Hand - soldering them can be a bit tricky, so SMT techniques with solder paste and hot air work best. Inside each LED, there are red, green, and blue lights. A tiny chip controls these RGB LEDs, taking 24 - bit color level via clock and data in and handling all the PWM control for you. You only need to'set' the color data once. Like DotStars and NeoPixels, you can chain them together to create very long strips. This product comes in a strip of 100 pieces, and a 10 - piece pack is also available. Note that this is a surface - mount part, designed for use on an SMD PCB. If you're not good at hand - soldering SMD parts, check out our other RGB LEDs like thru - hole ones or in pixels/strips.

Using these DotStar Micro LEDs is easy. First, if you're using SMT techniques, apply solder paste to the PCB pads and place the LEDs on them. Then use hot air to melt the solder and secure the LEDs. If you want to hand - solder, be very careful as they're very small. To control the color of the LEDs, send the 24 - bit color level through the clock and data inputs. You can chain multiple LEDs together by connecting the output of one to the input of the next. When it comes to maintenance, keep the LEDs away from excessive heat and moisture. Since they're surface - mount parts, don't try to bend or move them too much after soldering. If you're not confident with hand - soldering SMD parts, it's better to choose other types of RGB LEDs we offer, like the thru - hole ones.
