Product Details

What could be better than a single mechanical key? Two of them that can glow in any rainbow color! The Adafruit NeoKey FeatherWing lets you transform your Feather board into a tiny macro keypad. It plugs into any Feather main board and can hold two Cherry MX or compatible switches. Each wing has two Kailh sockets, so you can simply plug in MX-compatible switches instead of soldering. You might need a bit of glue to keep the switches in place. Under each switch, there's a reverse - mount NeoPixel that shines up through the switch's LED spot. The two pixels are chained, allowing you to control them as a single 2 - pixel NeoPixel strand. The switches are wired simply for use with any Feather. There are jumper pads to re - wire the switches and LED strand. Switch A connects to the Feather pin left of SCL (usually D5), Switch B to the pin two pins left of SCL (usually D6), and NeoPixel Input to the pin three pins left of SCL (usually D9). There's also a bonus STEMMA QT connector for solderless connections to other sensors and accessories using a compatible cable (cable not included). Each order includes one assembled FeatherWing PCB and two sticks of break - off header. Soldering is needed to attach the header and connect to a Feather. Mechanical switches and key caps are not included, but any MX - compatible switch like Kailh or Gateron will work.

Using the Adafruit NeoKey FeatherWing is easy. First, plug the FeatherWing into your Feather main board. If you have your MX - compatible switches, insert them into the Kailh sockets on the wing. You may want to use a bit of hot glue or epoxy to keep the switches firmly in place. When connecting the switches, note that Switch A goes to the Feather pin left of SCL (usually D5), Switch B to the pin two pins left of SCL (usually D6), and NeoPixel Input to the pin three pins left of SCL (usually D9). You can also use the STEMMA QT connector to connect other sensors and accessories, but you'll need to buy a compatible cable separately. Remember, you need to solder the break - off header to the FeatherWing PCB and then connect it to the Feather. Keep in mind that mechanical switches and key caps aren't included, so make sure you have your preferred MX - compatible switches. For maintenance, keep the FeatherWing clean and dry. Avoid getting it wet or exposing it to extreme temperatures. If you need to re - wire the switches or LED strand, use the jumper pads carefully. With proper use and care, your NeoKey FeatherWing will serve you well.
