Product Details

This is the latest Version 2.1! The ChronoDot RTC is an incredibly accurate real - time clock module based on the DS3231 temperature - compensated RTC (TCXO). It comes with a CR1632 battery that can last at least 8 years when the I2C interface is used only while the device has 5V power. No need for external crystals or tuning capacitors. The top of the Chronodot has a battery holder for 16mm 3V lithium coin cells, which are a great match with CR1632 batteries. Click here for documentation and example code. The DS3231 has an internal crystal and adjustable tuning capacitors. It monitors the crystal's temperature continuously and adjusts the capacitors to keep a stable frequency. While other RTC solutions may drift minutes per month, especially in extreme temperatures, the ChronoDot drifts less than a minute per year. Ideal for time - critical applications that can't be regularly synced to an external clock. It can be plugged into a standard solderless breadboard and has mounting holes for chassis installation. The I2C interface is simple and similar to popular DS1337 and DS1307 RTCs, so existing code for Arduino, Basic Stamp, Cubloc, and other controllers works without modification. This new version has a battery holder, no soldering required!

Using the ChronoDot is easy. First, if you're using it on a solderless breadboard, just plug it in. For chassis installation, use the mounting holes provided. When it comes to the battery, insert a CR1632 battery into the battery holder on the top side. Make sure the device has 5V power when using the I2C interface to ensure the battery lasts at least 8 years. As for the software, since the I2C interface is similar to popular RTCs, you can use existing code for Arduino, Basic Stamp, Cubloc, and other controllers without any changes. Just refer to the documentation and example code for more details. In terms of maintenance, keep it in a normal temperature environment as extreme temperatures can affect its performance, although it's more stable than many other RTC solutions. Check the battery periodically to ensure it's working properly. And that's all you need to know to get the most out of your ChronoDot!
