This is an exciting new way to utilize your BBC micro:bit without the need for crocodile clips, which can be tricky for kids to handle. With this new approach, you can use a single cable for most add - ons instead of 3 crocodile clips. Check out the 4tronix blog for detailed usage and programming info. Features include fittings for your micro:bit (micro:bit not included unless selected), a permanently - fitted battery holder for 2xAA batteries (batteries not included), a sturdy On/Off switch, a blue power indicator LED, white LEDs on all 3 inputs to show activity. The three pins (Pin 0, Pin 1, and Pin 2) from the micro:bit are connected to a new 3 - pin connector and a crocodile - clip - compatible terminal, allowing you to use crocodile clips for existing add - ons. Each new connector has a signal, power, and ground. It's fast and easy to connect. Optional extras are a BBC micro:bit with a USB cable and 20cm connection cables. Gizmos are to be purchased separately. Note that not all Gizmos are compatible with the BBC micro:bit. Currently, only the Motor Gizmo can't be used with it. Many Gizmos are available and more are coming. Each Gizmo usually connects to the Playground with one cable (Traffic Lights use 3 cables, one for each color). Gizmos are color - coded: blue for digital input (e.g., button), yellow for analog input (e.g., dial), black for digital output (e.g., buzzer), red for analog output (e.g., motors), and white for smart pixels ('Sparkles').
Using the Playground for your BBC Micro:Bit is a breeze. First, if you've chosen the optional extra, connect the BBC micro:bit with the USB cable to your device to start programming. Then, install 2 AA batteries into the battery holder. Flip the sturdy On/Off switch to turn on the device, and you'll see the blue power indicator LED light up. When you connect add - ons or Gizmos, the white LEDs on the inputs will show when they're active. For most add - ons, you can use a single cable. But if you prefer, you can still use crocodile clips for your existing add - ons through the compatible terminals. Remember, not all Gizmos work with the BBC micro:bit. The Motor Gizmo is not compatible. When connecting Gizmos, pay attention to the color - coding. For maintenance, keep the device in a dry and clean place. If the battery runs out, replace the 2 AA batteries. And that's all you need to know to have a great experience with this Playground for your BBC Micro:Bit.
