Product Details

Create your own amazing smart LED setup using the same awesome side-light integrated LEDs found in our HalloWing M4, side-emitting NeoPixel strips, and pixels. These individual LEDs are a great choice for those who've enjoyed using Adafruit NeoPixel strips and now want a stunning 90-degree glow. The 4020 (4mm x 2mm) RGB LED is easy to solder and offers a super compact way to add multiple bright LEDs to your design. The built-in driver chip has a ~18mA constant current drive, ensuring consistent color even with voltage variations. No need for external resistors, making your design simple. Power it with 5VDC and you're good to go. This 4-pin LED chip is code-compatible and works just like other NeoPixels. You can connect them in a chain by linking the output of one to the input of another (check the datasheet for details). Our well-written NeoPixel library for Arduino supports these pixels! It's for AVR cores, but others may have ported the driver code, so do a Google search. You'll need an 8MHz or faster processor. Inside, there are red, green, and blue LEDs controlled by a tiny chip. Just set the 24-bit color data once, and the chip handles all the PWM control. Like other NeoPixels, you can connect them end-to-end for really long strips. It comes in strips of 10. If you order multiple strips, you'll get separate 10-piece strips, not one long one. Note that this is a surface mount part, designed for SMD PCBs. If you're not confident with hand-soldering SMD parts, check out our other RGB LEDs. Our detailed NeoPixel Uberguide has all the info you need to use NeoPixels in any form, including ready-to-go library and example code for various Arduino boards.

Using these NeoPixel side-lit RGB LEDs is a breeze. First, power the LEDs with 5VDC. Connect them in a chain by linking the output of one LED to the input of the next one. You can refer to the datasheet for diagrams and pinouts. Set the 24-bit color data once, and the built - in chip will handle the PWM control. For programming, use our NeoPixel library for Arduino, which supports these pixels. Just make sure you have an 8MHz or faster processor. If you're using an AVR core, you're all set. If not, try searching online to see if someone has ported the driver code. Remember, this is a surface mount part. It's designed for use on SMD PCBs. If you're going to solder thin wires to the pads, be careful. If hand - soldering SMD parts makes you nervous, you can choose our other RGB LEDs instead. When it comes to maintenance, keep the LEDs away from extreme temperatures and moisture. If you need more help, our detailed NeoPixel Uberguide has all the answers and also provides ready - to - go library and example code for different Arduino boards.
